Prenatal yoga offers pregnant women a complete system for total health and well being of the body, mind and emotions. It relieves many of the common discomforts of pregnancy such as backaches, sciatica, fatigue, insomnia, and more. The postures increase flexibility, circulation and stamina; help the mind focus and the body/mind release tension and stress. Prenatal yoga also enables women to connect to their deeper breathing patterns, a vital skill when in labor and delivery. When women nourish themselves through their yoga practice and find internal harmony they create a nurturing ground to grow another body within. Prenatal yoga classes bring women together where sometimes long lasting bonds and deep relationships are created. In this new age, of yoga mothers and yoga babies, healthy lifestyles are beginning within the womb, and relationships are established within a foundation of healing and well-being. What could be better for our world, our future our planet. Peace begins within. Breathe your love, your healing energy, down to your baby.
Postnatal yoga classes address the major transition to motherhood. These classes support new mothers in regaining their bodies after the demands of pregnancy. They are geared to tone and strengthen the back, uterus and abdominal area as well as relieve stress in shoulders that are tired from nursing and carrying newborns. The classes provide a place to relax and unwind and allow women to reconnect with themselves in the presence of their newborn child as well as doing postures with their baby. It is also, like prenatal yoga, a wonderful place to meet other mothers and bond with family community. Baby helpers are sometimes available in the classes.

Deborah
Saliby graduated from Iyengar yoga Institute SF in
1982 and continued to practice with Iyengar teachers through
the years. She also studied many forms of eastern and western
meditation and energy healing. In 1995 she gave birth to a beautiful
and cherished boy child, Benjamin. In 1997 was certified as
a Hypnotherapist and in 2000 a HypnoBirthing® instructor.
She works regularly with pregnant women in yoga and hypnosis
preparing them for an easier and more natural birthing experience.
Deborah gratefully received a great deal of her prenatal and
restorative yoga training from her Yoga teacher, Judith lasater
in San Francisco in the late 70"s and early 80"s when
she was pregnant with her children.
In 1999 Deborah established the pre and post natal program
at 7th Heaven yoga in Berkeley California which she continues
to direct and teach in. Her prenatal yoga classes; Wednesdays
6-7:30 pm and Saturdays 11:15am-12:45, are taught from an Iyengar
style approach, focusing on body alignment with the use of props.
She also weaves into her classes the HypnoBirthing® Philosophy,
that women’s bodies are perfectly designed to give birth
comfortably. That birthing should not have to be a dreaded,
difficult and medical event. She prepares women through yoga,
breath work, relaxation and mind set, how to release their fears
and trust their bodies. To plan for the most natural, gentle
and best birth experience they can. She teaches regularly the
HypnoBirthing® Childbirth education program throughout the
bay area. Contact her for the current schedule. 510-541-1395,

"Try Deborah Saliby, she offers a one-day workshop or a series. We did the 1 day workshop, it was very good at helping me trust my body to do its job; birth is not done w/ the intellect! Also her pre-natal classes are great and the breathing I learned (and practiced each night) turned out to be what I used during labor to dissolve the pain and move along (no meds, most labor at home, a great birth experience)."

Deborah's prenatal and postpartum classes offer an oasis of peace and calm, this, even in a yoga class, cannot be taken for granted. One of my favorite qualities of her teaching style is a sense of space that she enables. Her instructions are given slowly and precisely with time given between poses to simply take a breath. This unhurried pace can make one and a half hours feel luxuriously long. There is also a great sense of safety and being taken care of that comes from her years of experience and knowledge of being a yoga teacher and of all the stages of change that we go through, during pregnancy and postpartum. The exercises themselves are simple enough that anyone can do them and are usually tailored specifically to the needs of the women in each class. You can rest assured that whatever issues your pregnancy raises for you, Deborah will have a useful technique that will ease you back to comfort.
Also, having experienced Hypnobirthing as taught by Deborah I simply cannot recommend it highly enough. The two techniques, Deborah’s Collaboration (Yoga and Hypnobirthing) compliment each other perfectly and as a birthing class Hypnobirthing is second to none. Its emphasis on relaxation during birthing is absolutely key and there is a host of information about the body that gives a real understanding of why deep relaxation and breathing techniques actually work. This, supported by affirmations, Deborah's amazingly relaxing voice and manner, and real ways of confronting any fears around birth make it a superbly effective class. "I just wanted to let you [Claudia] know that I gave birth on Saturday evening. My labor was only 4.5 hours long, very intense but completely focused. I never really had an early labor and when the contractions started, they assumed a strong pattern right away, already less than 8 minutes apart. I breathed through every contraction with a short inhale and an unbelievably long "om" to
follow. I was standing like a mountain throughout; I couldn't think of sitting down or bending my body against the baby. It was amazing how the strength of yoga practice carried me all the way through. By the time I got to the hospital, I had less then 1.5 hours left of my labor. When it came time to push, three contractions brought Sasha to us, as I kneeled on my knees on the bed in vertical position, maintaining the upright length of my legs and torso and satisfying the attending physician, who wanted me in bed, all the same. I cannot thank you enough for the strength of your teaching these last many months and look forward to seeing you at the postnatal series." -- Cathy, mother of two
