Vance Selover became interested in yoga in the late 1980’s, as a graduate student at the Juilliard School of Music. Playing long hours every day, he realized that in order to sustain the rigor of his practice, he needed to find a balance between effort and surrender, which he discovered through the path of yoga and meditation.

Vance’s devotion as a student led him to travel to India to study Ashtanga Yoga and Vipassana meditation. He has traveled repeatedly to Mysore, South India to study at the Ashtanga Yoga Reasearch Institute with Yogamaster Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. He is honored to have received direct authorization from his teacher to transmit the traditional method of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. With reverence and dedication to this methodology, Vance believes in daily practice as the true teacher

Before moving to California, Vance co-founded and directed Portland Ashtanga Yoga where he was the principal Mysore teacher for four years. Vance is also a Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner and was awarded a certificate from the International Society of Traditional Thai Yoga Massage, Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Vance has deepened his passion for music through the study of Hindustani classical music, bringing his inspiration and joy (and sometimes even his sitar) to his yoga classes.
